We all want every student to succeed, but it is really tough to make that happen systemwide. You need school board leaders with sharp skills, willingness to work hard and ability to work cohesively. School leaders need to listen and learn from parents, students, teachers and the broader community.
That’s a strength that Judy Newman brings to the board. She listens while bringing calmness and civility to sometimes difficult and complex discussions. She faces challenges head-on and engages diverse voices to find solutions. Judy demonstrated that recently by bringing people with diverse viewpoints together to revamp district policy so that students don’t miss academic and school events due to conflicts in observing major religious holidays.
She is recognized as one of the top special education experts in Oregon. She is a longtime leader in advocating for greater alignment of early learning and K-12 education systems.
There’s a lot at stake here. If you put kids and equity first, you’ll join us in supporting Judy Newman.
